Giacchino wins his first Oscar for 'Up'
Michael Giacchino won his first Academy Award last night. The Oscar for ‘Best Original Score’ went to his widely acclaimed score for the Pixar hit Up, a score that previously has been awarded the Golden Globe, the BAFTA and a Grammy among many other honours. Giacchino spoke about the dream coming true in his acceptance speech, saying to the “kid out there who do not have a support system” that “if you want to be creative, go out there and do it. It is not a waste of time.” In 2004 Giacchino was named 'Discovery Of The Year' at The World Soundtrack Awards for his score for another Pixar movie The Incredibles.

IFMCA awards Michael Giacchino's UP for Best Score 2009
Michael Giacchino wins the 2009 Score of the Year award from the International Film Music Critics Association for his inventive and nostalgic score for the Disney Pixar film, UP, which also wins Best Original Score for an Animated Feature. Giacchino receives a total of four awards, including Composer of the Year, in part for also writing the Best Original Score to a Fantasy/Science Fiction Feature winner for the JJ Abrams STAR TREK reboot. Giacchino won the Association’s first Score of the Year award in 2004 for THE INCREDIBLES, another Pixar film. For this music he also received the award for Discovery of the Year at the World Soundtrack Awards in Ghent.

63 Songs Set To Compete For Oscar
Sixty-three songs have been deemed eligible for contention for nominations in the Original Song category for the 82nd Academy Awards, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced today. The most notable exclusion was Mary J. Blige’s “I Can See in Color,” from “Precious,” which many saw as having a fair chance at a nomination.

EUROPEAN FILM 2009
Michael Haneke’s The White Ribbon (Das Weisse Band) was the big winner at this year’s European Film Awards, taking awards for European film, director and screenwriter of the year. Every year, the various activities of the European Film Academy culminate in the ceremony of the European Film Awards. In a total of 15 categories, the European Film Awards annually honour the greatest achievements in European cinema. The 2009 Awards Ceremony took place in Germany’s Ruhr Metropolis.

NOMINATIONS FOR THE EUROPEAN FILM AWARDS 2009
At the Seville European Film Festival the European Film Academy and EFA Productions announced the nominations for the 22nd European Film Awards. At the same time, the new EFA-website with lots of information about the Awards went online at www.europeanfilmawards.eu.
The more than 2,000 EFA Members will now vote for the winners which will be presented during the Awards Ceremony on 12 December in Bochum. World Soundtrack Awards' composer of the year, Alexandre Desplat, is nominated for his score for 'Coco Avant Chanel'.
